I have been a Reiki practitioner and Reiki teacher for over a decade. When I first began my journey with Reiki, I had no idea what a practical, simple, and profound gift it would be. I can honestly say that I use Reiki on a daily basis in my life… in ways that are simple, easy, and deeply nourishing and healing.
One of the things that I most love about Reiki is its simplicity. It’s easy to learn, easy to use, and doesn’t require any particular background, training, or affinity other than a sincere desire and openness to experience and share Reiki.
I’m often asked by people who are Reiki practitioners, “Why doesn’t my animal like Reiki?” This is often because people will see animals move away from their hands when offering Reiki, or not wanting to remain still, or even turning their backs and walking away. All of these are normal animal responses to the Reiki energy, and not an indication that the animal doesn’t want or like Reiki.
Animals receive Reiki differently than humans do. They generally are very fluent in feeling energy, vibration, and healing, and will move and respond to Reiki in ways that they know will most benefit them.
I’ve had animals ask to receive Reiki from a distance of several feet or more, sometimes across a field or pasture; some animals prefer hands-on Reiki; many are more comfortable with Reiki just off their body or in their energy fields. Some animals will receive Reiki very quickly and then move away; some prefer to come and go in a Reiki session, moving in and out as they wish.
Each animal is different, and each receives Reiki in their own unique and individual way.
The most important thing to remember when sharing Reiki with animals is: the animal guides the Reiki session, not the Reiki practitioner. This allows the animal to work with Reiki in a way that is most beneficial for them.
If you are a Reiki practitioner who would like to learn more about using Reiki with animals, I have two Open Access classes that correspond to Reiki Levels 1 and 2.
Find the information about them HERE.
And, if you are not yet a Reiki practitioner, but would like to learn to use Reiki for yourself and your friends and family (animal and human), I offer Reiki Levels 1 and 2 as Independent Study classes.
Find more information on those HERE.
I love sharing Reiki… it’s a beautiful, direct, and powerful form of energy healing that is simple, accessible, and powerful.
